So one day you find your heart strings palpitated by a certain attractive someone in your local market or yoga class.
If you wanted to actually meet up with that certain someone so as to exchange more than a casual “How’s it going…?” and encourage a more intimate relationship, you might write to her or him a personal letter.
Here’s what that letter would read like if our typical Romeo (or Juliet) were to put the same minimum level of effort into it as he (or she) does a typical cover letter:
To Whom It May Concern,
In response to my running into you every now and then, I would like to propose a date. I have gone out with many other people during the last [insert number] of years and I sincerely believe that I could provide adequate companionship if you were to consent to this dating proposal.
You should be interested in going out with me because through my having dated others I have developed many dating skills. I am a caring and reliable individual. I have [insert color] eyes and [insert color] hair.
If you do decide to go out with me I promise to work as hard as possible to be a good boyfriend/girlfriend.
If you’d like, I can produce a list for you of all the people I’ve dated in the past for your review.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Alfred (or Alfreda) E. Newman
Truthfully, if someone was trying to win your interests with this kind of communication, how would you respond?
